Dear Isaac,
Thank you for your continued interest in seeing me. Our last time together was indeed a pleasant one. I look forward to seeing you again. I know that our next visit should be just as rewarding. Sunday will be convenient with me. If you are called for your engagement, then the following Sunday will be all right too. Meantime, good wishes for a successful meeting. I’m looking forward to seeing you.
Sincerely yours,
Ivo

Dear Ivo,
I certainly enjoyed the pleasure of your company on the event of our last meeting. I sincerely hope that we can arrange to meet again soon.
I was called for my engagement early last week. All went well, and I am now an employee of W. W. Woodruff Hardware Co. The job seems fine and I think I shall like it. It has just one drawback that I can think of. I won’t be able to see you as often as I should like for a while. I hope that can be remedied before too long. You are often in my thoughts.
Sincerely your friend,
Isaac

Dear Betty,
Not much has happened around here since my last letter. I graduated from high school this spring and hope to go to Radford to get teacher training. The crops are looking good. Ivo was seeing a handsome man until he got a job in Knoxville a week ago. Now she seems a little anxious as to when she’ll see him again. Take care. I’ll try to write more next time.
Sincerely,
Ode

Dear Ivo,
Yesterday there was a big celebration in town with fireworks and many flags. I wish you could have been here with me to help celebrate. I decided to attend a business school class starting soon. I believe it will help me in my job. I hope to be able with your permission to come and enjoy the pleasure of your company before long. I shall write again to let you know when I can make the trip. Meanwhile may it be well with you.
Your sincere friend,
Isaac

Dear Ivo,
Isn’t it a great thing that the war is finally over? Our boys will soon be coming home. I’m so sorry that you had to suffer through the ordeal of having the flu. Many people did not survive the disease. I guess you were one of the lucky ones. Or maybe you were a strong one.
Yon may be interested to know that I have applied for a job with the L&N railroad at Appalachia. If I am accepted I’ll be able to see you much more often. I’d like that very much. Wish me good fortune. I’m hoping to see you soon.
Yours sincerely,
Isaac

Dear Joe,
I got the job with the L&N here. I think they are hiring people because three days after they hired me a new guy by the name of Jessee started here and the next day another man was hired. I think his name is Lawson. I think I’ll like the job. Both of these guys seem like nice men and will be easy to work with. I just wanted to let you know about the new job.
Yours truly,
Ed Duffy

Dear Abe,
Just a note to let you know we’re still alive and well. You know that Isaac has been staying with us since he started with the L&N. It looks like he won’t be with us much longer. He’s been seeing a young woman called Ivo. They seem to be getting along fine. I expect they will be getting married next year. Not much else new to report. Write soon and let us know what is going on in your part of the world.
Yours truly,
Bill

Dear Eva,
I just wanted to drop you a line to let you know that Ivo has become engaged to Isaac Jessee. They have been seeing each other for two years or so and are finally taking the big step. He is a very likable fellow and will make a great brother-in-law. I thought you would want to know. I don’t know the exact date but it will happen before the end of the year.
See you soon,
Idyle

Dear Arlena,
News from home. You know that Uncle Ike and his bride Ivo moved into the little house just down the street last year. What you may not know is that they had a beautiful baby boy about two weeks ago. They named him Ralph Donald. It’s nice that they live so close. I love playing with a baby, and I can watch him grow. You know Uncle Ike is my favorite uncle. I am glad he moved in so close. I’ll write more when there is more excitement.
Love from your little sister,
Lillian
